Breakthrough Healthcare President Sam Walters will be attending the Council of Medical Specialty Societies’ Summit on Digital Transformation in his role as a Senior Consultant to CMSS.

Healthcare in the United States is in the midst of a dramatic digital transformation. CMSS and its member societies have identified Digital Transformation as one of its top priorities for the coming year. CMSS will build on the work of previous CMSS Registry Summits and consider together how an evolving data ecosystem can support clinical registries, guidelines, professional education and improvement.

At the Digital Transformation Summit, CMSS will consider how specialty societies can help harness the potential of knowledge-driven digital services, including AI and machine learning, that can support clinical practice, research, guidelines, registries, care pathways, professional education and quality improvement. Specialty societies should offer their expertise on the validity and currency of digital data, as well as optimal clinical practices to support effective design and functionality of digital systems built to support learning health systems. With their growing interest in clinical care, big data players such as Google, Apple and Amazon should look to specialty societies as the source of clinical expertise and intellectual capital that can be transformative to their efforts. Specialty societies can also be a trusted partner to ensure patient privacy and the ethical use of emerging digital tools and information.
